The Second Marriage by Gill Paul @GillPaulAUTHOR @AvonBooksUK @RandomTTours #BlogTour #TheSecondMarriage

The Second Marriage by Gill Paul was published by Avon Books on 17th September 2020. My thanks to the publisher for the review copy and Anne Cater of Random Things Tours for inviting me on to the blog tour.

JACKIE
When her first marriage ends in tragedy, Jackie Kennedy fears she’ll never love again. But all that changes when she encounters…

ARI
Successful and charming, Ari Onassis is a man who promises her the world. Yet soon after they marry, Jackie learns that his heart also belongs to another…

MARIA
A beautiful, famed singer, Maria Callas is in love with Jackie’s new husband – and she isn’t going to give up.

Little by little, Jackie and Maria’s lives begin to tangle in a dangerous web of secrets, scandal and lies. But with both women determined to make Ari theirs alone, the stakes are high. How far will they go for true love?

My Thoughts:

I have heard of Jackie Kennedy, Aristotle Onassis and Maria Callas but I must admit knowing very little about the scandalous love triangle that went on in the late 1950's and the 1960's. This made a riveting read for me and whilst a work of fiction I was utterly absorbed in to the lives of these larger than life characters that were prominent and in the limelight at the time.

Gill Paul totally transported me whilst reading such was the wonderful sense of time and place here. This is a historical novel from a period that I am now fascinated to learn more about. The glamour and the riches of the elite and the desire to succeed.

I don't really want to give to much away about the story but suffice to say it is told in narrative from both Maria and Jackie. Both of which I can't for the life of me understand what they saw in Onassis. There is a lot of wealth and properties all over the world.

I felt a certain sadness where the two ladies were concerned. The scrutiny of the press and the desire to be liked must have been an enormous pressure and incredibly exhausting at times. Both had things in common but were also poles apart.

There is a great supporting cast also that makes for interesting reading and again placeS the book in the historical timeline.

An utterly fascinating work of historical fiction and some fact. The author provides further clarification at the end of the book. It is as exciting and revelationary as I am sure the Newspaper headlines were at the time.
