There are so many ways to kill a friendship . . .

You’re lying, sprawled at the bottom of the stairs, legs bent, arms wide.
And while this could be a tragic accident, if anyone’s got a motive to hurt you, it’s me.

Bec and Izzy have been best friends their whole lives. They have been through a lot together – from the death of Bec’s mother to the birth of Izzy’s daughter. But there’s a darker side to their friendship, and once it has been exposed, there is no turning back.

So when Izzy’s body is found, Bec knows that if the police decide to look for a killer, she will be the prime suspect. Because those closest to you are the ones who can hurt you the most . . .

The Rumour meets The Holiday in this compulsive thriller with a toxic friendship at its heart that keeps you in the dark until the final breathless pages.

My Thoughts:

My Best Friend's Murder is the sort of book that grabs you from the opening chapter as if it is defying you to walk away and not get involved. At the outset Izzy is lying at the bottom of the stairs with Bec standing over her. So we know the outcome but what are the events that led up to that point and is everything exactly as it seems.

Izzy and Bec have been friends since childhood, although neither of them can see how toxic their friendship has actually become. Izzy seems to have it all, the money, big house, handsome husband and a hold over Bec. Whatever Izzy says Bec comes running, until one day she doesn't. This is the catalyst and unravelling of the events.

I loved being a fly on the wall in this story that seems to have the art of manipulative and unreliable characters down to a fine skill. Straight off it is clear that Izzy is a piece of work but it also seemed to me that Bec thrived off of that and at times was manipulative and demanding in her own right. I found neither character particularly likeable and that was delightful because I didn't take sides.

There was plenty of tension that kept me riveted and few little twists and turns that kept me holding on. I for one did not guess the final outcome. I found this plot to be sinister and yet easy to believe. I am sure we have all met people like the ladies concerned.

Really recommended reading. Dark and dangerous.
